About This Quote

Neoconservative movement, which has had an influence on some of the most influential political figures in the world and the United States and the United Kingdom, was started by Norman Podhoretz and Irving Kristol to oppose President Jimmy Carter’s foreign policy. With the Cold War – a period of high tension between the Soviet Union and its allies – already in progress, they advocated a very aggressive foreign policy that would be used to support Israel against its enemies. They felt that such a policy would be very effective in stopping Soviet expansionism. Their idea was to expand American military power so as to counterbalance Communist influence in countries around the world. Many of their ideas were supported by Ronald Reagan.
